On May 4, 2001, forty-four-year-old Bonny Lee Bakley was discovered to have been shot twice in her husband’s car while he went to get something he had left in the restaurant Vitello’s in Los Angeles, California.

The husband was famed actor Robert Blake, and the item he forgot at the restaurant was a handgun he alleged fell out of his pocket while dining. The restaurant was near the home he shared with his wife.

Robert Blake was a well-known actor born in 1933. His first film credit is from 1939, working as a child actor. Born Micael James Vincenzo Gubitosi, the production company he worked for, MGM, suggested the name change to Bobby or Robert Blake.

His most infamous role was the lead in a TV show called “Baretta” and the 1967 movie “In Cold Blood.”

Robert Blake would quickly be looked at with suspicion after his wife’s death. Blake would tell police that he was not with his wife when she was shot because he had returned to the restaurant to retrieve a gun that had fallen from his pocket.
