The story of the Long Beach John Doe is tragic from start to finish. At around 4:15 AM to 4:30 AM on June 3rd, 1978, the body of a teenage boy was found lying face down on Division Street, close to the intersection with Corona Street in Long Beach, California. Given his youthful look, those who discovered the body immediately knew he was a teenager. First responders arrived at the scene minutes later, and at first, they believed that the boy was yet another victim of a drug overdose.
When he arrived at the medical examiner’s office, his body told another tale. He had been strangled before being callously thrown onto Division Road. The report detailed that he was between 5’7” to 5’11” and had been found wearing a blue t-shirt, blue jeans, a brown belt, and blue and white ‘Redwings’ running trainers. The word ‘PAID’ had been stamped on his hand, although the ink had faded significantly by the time he was discovered.
